Define “useful”. In whose opinion is my activity useful? Yours or mine? Frankly, what you may consider useful I may consider trite, and of course vice versa. I think that entertainment & game-playing are very important in a person’s life, for relaxation if nothing else. Also, those of us with children sometime enjoy playing video games with our kids.
As an aside, neoteny (the biological tendency to retain child-like characteristics into adult age) is one of the main signs of intelligence in the natural world. Do some reading up on it.
